The Sprocket

INBOUND is HubSpot’s annual global conference bringing together marketing, sales, and business leaders to learn, connect, and explore what’s next in growth, AI, and customer experience.

For INBOUND 2023, HubSpot introduced The Sprocket—a one-off magazine created to showcase HubSpot Media. From creator spotlights to its growing YouTube presence, the publication acted as a storytelling platform that highlighted the breadth and evolution of HubSpot’s media ecosystem.

I led the art direction for The Sprocket, using the editorial format as an opportunity to push beyond the core HubSpot brand system while still feeling unmistakably on-brand. Through custom layouts, expressive typography, and a more experimental visual language, the magazine was designed to feel collectible—something attendees would want to flip through, keep, and share.

Creator Café

The Creator Café brought The Sprocket off the page and into a physical space. Designed as a pop-up café and gathering hub within INBOUND 2023, the space gave attendees a moment to pause, connect, and engage with HubSpot Media in a more human way.

The Sprocket became the primary visual and experiential anchor of the café. Rather than relying on screens or looping demos, the magazine was placed directly into patrons’ hands, encouraging them to sit, flip through pages, and explore long-form storytelling in an environment otherwise dominated by AI conversations and digital interfaces.

As art director, my goal was to ensure the editorial identity translated seamlessly into the physical experience. The café extended the magazine’s visual language into the environment, reinforcing the idea that thoughtful content and tangible design still matter, especially in a future increasingly shaped by automation.

Together, The Sprocket and the Creator Café created a cohesive moment at INBOUND. One that slowed people down, sparked conversation, and positioned HubSpot Media as a brand that values craft, creators, and storytelling beyond the screen.
